At the Beach

This Newport Beach, CA tile installation reflects the energy, color, vibrancy and movement of this beach city. The glaze textures evoke surf and sand, as do the wavy tile shapes and sunset and sunrise elements. Pictures of the piece during glazing and grouting show some of the radical evolution of the piece. The very first step was a design consultation where I viewed the space, met with the clients and listened to their preferences. We discussed color palettes and looked around for favorite accent colors and shapes. I took a few zillion pictures and retired to the art cave for some designing. “At the Beach” is my synthesis of these sources and embodies the ideas of surf, sand, waves, sunsets & beach life in the 21st century.
