Mandala Shower/Tub Enclosure

In this installation, we wanted to create a spiritual and calming environment. Inspired by the spiritual and ritual symbols in Indian religions representing the Universe, this project is an exercise in precise geometry and custom fit to space. Even the placement of the plumbing fixtures was consciously harmonized with design elements in the whole. Rather than grout being a necessary but ignored design component, we elected to use it to provide us with our graphic design lines in color. We matched the brown circular centers of the mandala with custom sinks mounted under the counter. Our goal, met so far, is for people to see this room and express something audible like, “Wow!”. The shape of the sinks, with its 2-phase space design, is a conscious recognition of the scarcity of water and the functional use of bathroom sinks.
